The Pu Erh knife (tea needle or tea knife) is used to break open pressed tea. These are mostly Pu Erh teas, white teas or black teas, which are pressed into round or rectangular shapes. One pierces the tea on the side or on the top and thus removes a part of it which is sufficient for the preparation.
