Pronunciation for Sengling Huang Ya:

Special characteristics:

A yellow tea from the mountains in the autonomous county of Mabian in Sichuan, China, near the city of Leshan. The tea plants grow here in the clearings of a fairytale-like remote forest tea garden at an altitude of between 1500 and 1800 meters, surrounded by centuries-old trees. In our search for exceptional teas with distinctive flavors, we discovered this remarkable tea in the golden tea belt in southwestern China, on the border between Sichuan and Yunnan. The garden itself was only recultivated 10 years ago. Until then, the existence of this old tea garden was only known to a local shepherd who occasionally grazed his sheep and goats in the mountains there. Of course, no pesticides are used. Due to the high altitude, the tea bushes grow very slowly and are scattered over a large area. The harvest of the first buds is also delayed by about three weeks. This gives the tea a very rich and aromatic flavor and produces a golden yellow infusion.
The tea is harvested by members of the Yi ethnic group, who have so far only harvested it in quantities sufficient to meet local demand. The tea is harvested early, at the beginning to mid-April. It consists of buds that are just 2.5 cm long. Pan-frying by hand makes the tea even more aromatic and gives it its curled, firm structure. When infused, the buds unfold completely again.
The yellow tea production process is only used to a limited extent for this variety. Sengling Huang Ya is therefore very similar to green tea. A very complex production method is used here, consisting of three repeated cycles of short fermentation and roasting (instead of just one cycle). This production method ensures that the bitterness of green tea is hardly noticeable, even when steeped for longer periods. It also improves and rounds off the aroma. The tea has a fermentation level of only about 7 percent. When infused, the leaves unfold and reveal their green color. The low bitterness and low caffeine content make the tea particularly easy to drink and suitable for any time of day.
Storage and aging: This tea is, of course, already a delight when fresh. When stored correctly (in a dry, cool place), it continues to develop its aroma over the years and also becomes increasingly expensive.

Production and packaging:

100% handmade. We get this tea directly from small producers and tea farmers in China. The tea is grown and processed in a traditional way. Such high qualities are usually produced by the tea farmers only for the local Chinese market. Therefore we are regularly on site with the producers. The direct contact to the tea farmers enables us to offer very reasonable prices with outstanding tea quality. All our teas are checked for pesticide residues by an independent laboratory. We deliver the tea in re-sealable and aroma-safe stand-up pouches made of ALU/PE.
