Tai Ping Hou Kui BIO

Incl. 0% VAT, excl. Shipping Cost
(=€318.00 / 1 kg)
A green tea rarity from the Huangshan region in extraordinarily high quality from organic cultivation. This green tea is absolutely unique among Chinese green teas: unlike most other teas, it is not made from fine buds, but from new shoots with two large leaves and a shoot. The special production process gives the tea an intense, almost citrus-like scent. The infusion is full-bodied, but still tastes mild, with hardly any bitterness.

Pronunciation for Tai Ping Hou Kui:

Special characteristics:

Tai Ping Hou Kui The tea is harvested in mid-April during only about a week according to the Chinese lunar calendar. The tea is grown at an altitude of over 700m in a humid/foggy climate. The production quantities of this quality are correspondingly low. Buds with a length of 7-15cm are harvested. The tea has an intense, citrus-like scent, slightly reminiscent of magnolia. The tea can be brewed several times. It is best served by first pouring the water into a suitably tall glass and then simply adding about 4 leaves.
Tai Ping Hou Kui is composed of "Tai Ping", the place where the tea originally came from (a community of Huang Shan County), and "Hou Kui", which translated means monkey king. However, the tea has little to do with monkeys. "Hou Kui" is composed of the name of a village (Houkeng) and the name of a tea farmer, Wang Kuicheng, who invented the method of making tea. Since the tea is made from relatively large leaves, it is very difficult to keep the leaves intact during the production process. Therefore Tai Ping Hou Kui with large, intact leaves is very expensive. The special manufacturing process gives the tea an intense, almost citrus-like fragrance. The infusion is full-bodied, but still tastes mild, with hardly any bitter notes.
